The Greatest of Lakes

So its been a few days since our last update. Sorry for the delays!... Since leaving Niagara we have crossed through Canada behind Lake Erie and below Lake Huron. We had the pleasure of stopping in both lakes to rest and dip our feet in! The lakes are so nice!

We crossed the US border into Michigan and headed to our next camp which was on the coast of Lake Michigan. We drove 9 hours the day we left Niagara so we didn’t arrive on the west coast of Michigan till around 1 am. We stayed in the Lake Michigan National Recreation area. We couldn’t see any of it driving in because it was pitch black on all the roads, but when we woke up in the middle of this gorgeous natural reserve, we were very excited! We slept the first night in a “group camp” parking lot because we couldn’t find the free sites and we were very tired.

The following day ( July 18th ) we took a break from driving long distances and instead just went 20 mins down the road to the Sleeping Bear National Shore Line. It was such a beautiful day! We got to lounge in the dunes, take in the sun, and swim in Lake Michigan! (even took the opportunity to shower in it! haha)

After the Sleeping bear dunes we went back to the Lake Michigan National Recreation Area and bought an actual camp site within the reserve. We met a man named Mike Mead. He was our campsite host. He was a great guy and talking to him was a real pleasure. He told us stories of when he used to travel and showed us some old pictures that he kept on hand in his golf cart.

Overall Michigan has been amazing! I would most definitely love to come back here one day. Today ( July 19th ) we are headed south around Lake Michigan to Chicago! Going from a secluded nature reserve to the city life….Should be interesting!

(** here is what our route is looking like so far! **)
